Ohioans Give Back
Volunteering has long been a core value in Ohio. Volunteerism and service is essential for the health of nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and communities. Volunteers make a positive difference for others, deepen their knowledge and commitment to their community, and are even shown to have better health outcomes than non-volunteers. According to the most recent data from the Volunteering and Civic Life in America Report, here is how Ohioans give back.
Highlights From the Report:
More than 2.2 million volunteers contributed 165.9 million hours of service
- 24.3% of residents formally volunteered through organizations
- Volunteer service is worth an estimated $4.5 billion
- 96.3% of residents regularly talked to or spent time with friends and family
- 54.8% of residents informally helped others by exchanging favors with their neighbors
- 70.7% of residents had a conversation or spent time with their neighbors
- 26.7% of residents belonged to an organization
- 47.1% of residents donated $25 or more to charity
