Sam, an AmeriCorps Alum, recently shared the impact his AmeriCorps service had on his career trajectory. "Over the past 3 years AmeriCorps has provided me ample opportunities to get me out of my comfort zone and learn how to be a more effective teacher, friend, co-worker, and community member. AmeriCorps gave me the freedom to gain the experience and training that interested me the most. I remember my first year where I was in a staff meeting and we were asked to share our big hopes and dreams. When it was my turn, I said ‘I hope to one day be an Environmental Educator for the Audubon Society and take people birding for the rest of my life." Shortly after his service ended, Sam secured a position at the Audubon Society.

Academic success is the top AmeriCorps funding priority for ServeOhio – in the current program year, we are investing $5.1 million to increase student achievement. ServeOhio mobilizes hundreds of AmeriCorps Members as tutors, coaches, mentors and teachers – helping students succeed throughout the entire education continuum – from kindergarten readiness to college access and completion.
