Rural Action – Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps
31 AmeriCorps members educate youth and the public, restore, conserve, and preserve environmental resources, improve food distribution to people in poverty, connect community members to their history, heritage, and sense of place, and further economic sustainability in Appalachian Ohio. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for healthier streams, a more engaged public acting as citizen stewards, increased direct service through volunteerism, and their own growth in knowledge and transferrable workplace skills. In addition, the AmeriCorps members leverage volunteers who will serve more in communities of need, building trails, planting trees, cleaning up dumpsites, recovering resources, joining in education activities, improving the health of our watersheds, and engaging in citizen science.
