Ohio Citizen Corps Regional Conference Schedule
(L-R): Susan Rogers, Director of RSVP/Chair of the Ohio Community Service Council, Martha Deck, and Senator John Carey, Chair of Senate Finance.
Senator John Carey recently presented a 25-Year Service Award to RSVP volunteer Martha Deck, at a volunteer ceremony in Jackson. Through RSVP, Mrs Deck serves two days a week at My Brother's Place, a clothing bank and food pantry in Wellston. Mrs Deck also serves as a Grandpal, a mentoring/tutoring volunteer position which partners RSVP volunteers with 5th grade students in a year-long literacy project. She recently completed her second term as Chair of the Jackson County Board on Aging, and is a regular participant in the Area Agency on Aging Annual Senior Art Show. Senator Carey served as Mayor of Wellston until his election to the Ohio House of Representatives, prior to his election to the Senate. Mrs. Deck succeeded him as Mayor of Wellston, and they share a love for this small southern Ohio town where they both live.
The Ohio Community Service Council's STAR Award, established in 2006, honors individuals, groups and/or organizations whose efforts have impacted volunteerism and service across Ohio. The Star Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Ohio Community Service Council, the state agency for volunteerism and community service. Click here to read this year's STAR Recipients!
