O-H-I-O AmeriCorps Funding Opportunity

Program Year 2010 Grants

The Ohio Community Service Council is pleased to announce availability of funding to support new Ohio AmeriCorps programs to start in the Fall of 2010! Funding is available for planning, operating, fixed-amount, or education award grants.

The national service movement is gaining tremendous momentum as a result of the recent passage of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. This historic legislation will bring new opportunities for individuals, organizations, agencies, and supporters of volunteerism and community service.

AmeriCorps funds are available to nonprofit organizations, state/local government units, higher education institutions, faith-based organizations, and 501(c)3 entities. The new national priorities include: education, healthy futures, clean energy/environment, veterans, and economic opportunity.

There were many instances and moments during my college career that led me to City Year Columbus. Most of my time spent at The Ohio State University was devoted to service. I was a board member of Habitat for Humanity at OSU where I not only worked in the Columbus area, but also building houses in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. I realized during my last years at OSU, that my life would have to take a path in the Non-Profit arena in some way or another. City Year was finally an avenue I could venture into that encompassed my passion for Non-Profit work, the belief that youth can change the world, and my commitment to service all in one.
